There is a story behind the history of the name of the temple Chakkulathukavu. Years ago when the water in the historical pond of the temple has the sweetness of jaggery, people around this place called this temple pond as “Chakkarakulam” or pond of jaggery where in Malayalam language (Official language of Kerala state of India) “Chakkara = Sweet and Kulam = Pond”. “Chakkarakulam” became shortened in the long run and came to be known as “Chakkulam” which later became the name of this temple.
